Armor Lux is the brainchild of a man called Walter Hubacher. When Walter was 31, the Swiss entrepreneur made a promise to create and produce high-quality underwear under the Armor Lux brand name. Created in 1938 in Quimper, Armor Lux is a brand now well-known for the originality of its garments heavily inspired by French maritime tradition and the laws of the sea. The company is known for its iconic Breton striped Marinere shirt which it has been engineering for more than 70 years in Brittany, France. The striped shirt was originally created to help distinguish the French Naval sailors from the waves so they can be spotted more easily when they fell overboard. At the time, the French navy hailed from Brittany, so the shirt was named the “Breton” shirt and had 21 stripes – one for each of Napoleon’s victories.
