Carhartt was founded in 1889 by Hamilton Carhartt and is still a family business to this day. Its head office is in Dearborn, Michigan.
Its origins began when Hamilton started to make clothing for the railway workers in Detroit where the railway workers needed clothing that was durable and long lasting. He was a pioneer of the use of denim and brown duck later to be known as canvas which has been used as a core material throughout the ranges ever since. In Europe it is known now as Carhartt WIP and all the product is designed with the european market in mind.
The collection of men’s Carhartt WIP clothing at Fat Buddha Store is extensive. With its origins in the railroads and industrial America, Carhartt is synonymous with quality and durability.
The brand is warm and hard-wearing without compromising on style. This attracted the attention of numerous graffiti artists in the late 80s who needed clothing that was tough – and looked equally as tough. Similarly, it is this essential quality that attracted the European urban sports scene — the urban culture scene followed soon after. It was a match made in heaven and the brand has gone from strength to strength ever since.
Across its signature jackets, trousers and hats, the main attraction to the brand comes from the robust, modern lines and strong, bold colours that appeal to anyone who likes to dress with attitude while not compromising on the quality of the final product. People wear these signature pieces in all weather, as Carhartt’s quality and durability is as essential as their look.
