The Converse footwear brand started out as the Converse Rubber Shoe Company back in February of 1908. Marquis Mills founded the company in Malden, Massachusetts and the company gained steam while manufacturing rubber soled winter footwear for men, women and children, producing 4,000 shoes daily by 1910. After creating a Converse athletic shoe for tennis players in 1915 the company gained a little more recognition but it was in 1917 when the brand hit a turning point after the creation of the Converse All-Star basketball shoe. A few years later in 1921, famous basketball player Charles H. “Chuck” Taylor adopted the Converse All-Star as his shoe of choice for basketball matches. Converse realised this might be their big break in the footwear industry and recruited Chuck as an ambassador for the brand, and it was Chuck’s love of the shoe which has made the All-Star such an iconic shoe, still popular more than 90 years later.
