For easily misplaced things like earphones and a phone charger, the main compartment opens through a zippered U-shaped lid, which has a pair of zip-closing mesh pockets on the underslide. All the items you need to access easily are kept in zippered exterior pocket. When your duffel gets the baggage-handler treatment, the padded bottom panel provides structure and helps to cushion the load.
