Hoodies For Every Wardrobe
Not much else in a wardrobe works as hard as a hoodie. They're warm, easy to wear, and incredibly comfortable, which is why most of us end up reaching for one regularly. It sits under a jacket in January, goes out on its own come spring, and handles everything in between.
Pullover & Zip-up Hoodies
Whether you want an overhead/pullover or zip-up hoodie, you'll find plenty to suit in our range.
Pullover hoodies: Look slightly cleaner and tend to be that bit warmer and more cosy, with no zip breaking up the fabric or letting draughts in.
Zip-up Hoodies: Offer a bit more flexibility. The full-length zip means you can quickly adjust if you're too hot or too cold, and they're easy to throw over a t-shirt or take off without knocking your cap off.
Athletic, Regular Fit & Oversized Hoodies
There isn't a wrong way to wear a hoodie, but there are different options so you can get the fit you prefer.
Slim/Athletic fit hoodies: A streamlined look that works well for technical or outdoor options used for layering, or high-movement activities.
Regular fit hoodies: A timeless choice, being relaxed but not baggy, and easy to wear under a jacket when it's a bit cooler.
Oversized hoodies: Cut wider through the body with the shoulder seam dropped further down the arm, adding a bit more volume to your silhouette.
Some brands such as Carhartt WIP cut a bit more oversized as standard, but you should be good in your regular size. You might want to consider sizing down if you prefer a slimmer or more athletic fit, or sizing up if you want something extra baggy.
What Fabrics Are Hoodies Made From?
A pure cotton hoodie is soft and breathable, but can shrink slightly on its first wash or if you throw it in the dryer. A cotton-polyester blend reduces shrinkage, dries a bit faster, and tends to be a bit more durable. You can't go wrong with either, but we'd say choose pure cotton for ultimate softness, especially as it ages, or choose a blend if you want something slightly easier to care for.
When it comes to how your hoodie feels, it's also worth understanding the type of fabric it's made from.
Loopback jersey: Leaves the loops intact on the inside face, giving you a lighter, more structured hoodie that holds its shape and softens as you wear it in.
Brushed-back fleece: Brushes those loops into a soft nap, so it traps more warmth, though it flattens a little with enough washes.
Loopback is usually a good choice if you want a hoodie for layering and year-round wear, while brushed-back might be better if you're after something a bit warmer.
Light, Regular & Heavyweight Hoodies
GSM (grams per square metre) tells you how dense the fabric is, and it's decent shorthand for warmth and durability. Most of what we stock sits somewhere between 320gsm and 480gsm, and generally speaking, most brands will use a mid-weight fabric in their standard hoodies. As a general rule of thumb:
Lightweight hoodies (320-360gsm): Good for layering or a milder day.
Regular or midweight hoodies (400-450gsm): Tend to be the sweet spot that's warm but not bulky
Heavyweight hoodies (450gsm+): Your pick for extra warmth or as your outer layer.
