The Barbados is Birkenstock's pool slide — one wide strap, no buckle, nothing to think about. It's the one you keep by the door for the beach, the campsite, the gym or the back garden.
Moulded from a single piece of EVA, so it weighs almost nothing and is completely waterproof. Rinse it under a tap and it's clean. Underneath is the contoured Birkenstock footbed shape — arch support, deep heel cup, raised toe bar — so it holds your foot properly rather than flopping about like a flip-flop. The sole is chunky and grippy enough for wet tiles.
White is the summer one — clean and bright, and it wipes back easily.
Birkenstock traces its roots to 1774, when Johann Adam Birkenstock was registered as a shoemaker in the German village of Langen-Bergheim. More than 250 years on, the family firm still builds that same anatomically shaped support into everything it makes.
