The Boston is the closed-toe Birkenstock — a clog rather than a sandal, which makes it the one that carries through autumn and winter rather than getting put away in September.
This is the oiled leather version: a full-grain upper with a waxy finish that darkens and softens as it wears, and picks up a patina rather than looking tired. Underneath is the same anatomical cork-latex footbed Birkenstock have used since 1774 — moulded arch support, deep heel cup and a raised toe bar, all of it shaping to your foot over the first few weeks. The adjustable buckle lets you set the fit, and the EVA sole is light with proper grip.
This is the narrow width. If you've found Birkenstocks loose across the foot before, this is the fit you want.
Tobacco Brown is the classic — a mid brown that goes with everything and is the colour most people picture when they think of a Boston.
