The Ray-Ban Bill comes in polished black acetate with a polarised G-15 green lens, the version to reach for on a long drive or near water.
Bill takes the Aviator's teardrop geometry and rebuilds it in acetate, with adjustable nose pads carried over from the original. The polarising filter cancels the horizontal glare thrown off wet roads, open water and snow — contrast holds up, and you squint less across a long day. Worth knowing it can also make LCD screens and some dashboard displays harder to read. G-15 transmits around fifteen percent of light and keeps colours close to true. Ray-Ban began in 1937, when Bausch & Lomb built a green-tinted lens to cut the glare US Army Air Corps pilots met at altitude. The Aviator followed that year and the Wayfarer in 1952, and nearly ninety years on the name still carries that optical-first thinking into frames worn far beyond the cockpit.
