Carhartt WIP

Carhartt was founded in 1889 by Hamilton Carhartt and is still a family business to this day. The company began life when Hamilton started to make durable and long lasting clothing for the railway workers in Detroit, pioneering the use of denim and brown duck canvas which has been used as a core material throughout the ranges ever since.

Launched in 1994, Carhartt WIP (Work In Progress) is designed with the European market in mind and is widely regarded as one of the original pioneers of streetwear. Today Carhartt WIP draws on the rich heritage of the brand and combines this with contemporary styling and detailing, for collections that are instantly recognisable yet always fresh season after season.

About Carhartt WIP

With a history to be proud of, Carhartt has been producing hard-wearing and comfortable clothing for over 129 years. Behind the brand was an independent thinker and endless creator who believed in himself and the goods he made. As Hamilton Carhartt said, "To every man a square deal, whether he works for me or buys from me".

Being warm, durable and functional, during the late 1980s many graffiti artists started being attracted to the Carhartt brand due to the quality of its clothing. Other groups like skateboarders and outdoor enthusiasts also adopted the brand for similar reasons, which saw Carhartt crossover from its workwear roots into the emerging streetwear scene of the early 1990s.
