About Patagonia

In 1953, at the age of 14, just as he began his climbing career, Yvon Chouinard didn't think that he would be the future creator of Patagonia. After setting up 'Chouinard Equipment' with fellow climber Tom Frost, they became one of the biggest climbing hardware businesses around.

Officially, the Patagonia outdoor clothing brand was founded in 1973 in Ventura, producing apparel ideal for mountain climbers and other outdoor activities alike.
