What sets the Iron Ranger apart is how it's made. Red Wing uses premium leathers from its own S.B. Foot Tanning Company. It's a big part of why Iron Rangers age so well, and the signature double-layer cap toe gives the boots their distinctive profile and extra durability where they take the most wear.
The upper is stitched to a welt, which is then stitched to the sole (a construction method known as a Goodyear welt). The result is a sturdy, water-resistant boot that can be resoled when the original sole wears down. Look after your pair, and it can outlast several pairs of cheaper boots.
Inside, a layer of cork beneath the footbed slowly moulds to the shape of your foot. Over time, it gives you a fit that feels made for you.
