About Kleman

Kleman's long-lasting legacy has grown from just an idea inside a prison cell to a globally recognised footwear brand today. Shoemaker René Cléon was taken prisoner in 1940, after fighting on the front lines in WW2. During his time in a German prisoner of war camp, René continued to craft shoes and founded his company upon his release in 1945.

The company grew over the years, with control passing to René's sons during the 1980s, and Kleman officially launched their authentic French footwear brand in 1988. They first established themselves as a well-known supplier for several French public associations, including the French national railway company, Air France, French Customs, a number of fire departments and the French army.
