• Made from — an outer face of 86% polyester and 14% cotton bonded to a 100% polyurethane membrane, with a 100% cotton tartan reverse. Both sides are properly finished, so neither reads as a lining.
• Wears like — oversized, 70cm length. Zip and stud fastening, corduroy collar, and two pockets with handwarmer lining for when the temperature drops.
• The Barbour part — that tartan is Barbour's own, the pattern that has lined its waxed jackets for decades. Here it is the outside rather than the secret, which is the whole idea.
• Who it's for — one jacket, two moods. Sage for the school run and the office; tartan when you would rather be noticed. Genuinely useful if you travel light.
• Looking after it — machine wash at 30°C on a very mild process. No wax, no reproofing, no special treatment — unusual for a jacket with this much presence.
