The Boston is the closed-toe Birkenstock — a clog rather than a sandal, which is why it carries on through autumn instead of getting put away in September.
This one is suede: a soft napped upper that breaks in fast and only looks better for it. Underneath is the anatomically contoured cork-and-latex footbed Birkenstock have built since 1902 — moulded arch support, deep heel cup, raised toe bar, all of it taking the shape of your foot over the first few weeks. One buckle across the instep sets the fit.
Mocca is a deep warm brown that suits suede better than a flat colour would, and goes with more than black does.
Birkenstock traces its roots to 1774, when Johann Adam Birkenstock was registered as a shoemaker in the German village of Langen-Bergheim. More than 250 years on, the family firm still builds that same anatomically shaped support into footwear made to be worn for years.
