Columbia have been making the Helvetia since 1991, and it's stayed more or less the same because there isn't much to improve — deep sherpa pile, a half snap placket, contrast nylon trim on that placket, the collar and chest pocket. Zipped chest pocket for the things you don't want falling out, a kangaroo pocket across the front for your hands, and stretch binding at the collar, cuffs and hem so it holds its shape instead of going soft round the edges. 100% polyester sherpa. Columbia was founded in Portland, Oregon, in 1938 as the Columbia Hat Company by Paul Lamfrom, taking its name from the river that runs past the city. Gert Boyle took it over in 1970 and her son Tim Boyle has led it since 1988, extending Pacific Northwest weather-testing into outdoor gear built to be worn rather than looked at.
