The Tokio is the Boston with a heel strap — the same closed-toe clog shape, but with a strap round the back so it stays on properly when you're actually walking about rather than shuffling.
Soft suede upper over the anatomically contoured cork-and-latex footbed Birkenstock have built since 1902: moulded arch support, deep heel cup, raised toe bar. Two buckles adjust — one across the instep, one at the heel — so you can set the fit rather than put up with it.
Taupe is the quiet one. A soft greige that works with more than a brown does, and suits the nap of the suede.
Birkenstock traces its roots to 1774, when Johann Adam Birkenstock was registered as a shoemaker in the German village of Langen-Bergheim. More than 250 years on, the family firm still builds that same anatomically shaped support into footwear made to be worn for years.
