The Ray-Ban Original Wayfarer Classic comes in polished black acetate with a polarised green lens — the 1952 silhouette with the lens worth having if you drive.
The Original is the fuller, more angular Wayfarer: heavier acetate, a pronounced brow and a slight upward lift at the outer edge, sitting wider on the face than the New Wayfarer. The polarising filter cancels the horizontal glare thrown off wet roads, open water and snow, so contrast holds up and you squint less across a long drive. Worth knowing it can also make LCD screens and some dashboard displays harder to read. Full UV protection. 54mm eye size. SKU RB2140 901/58 54.
Ray-Ban began in 1937, when Bausch & Lomb built a green-tinted lens to cut the glare US Army Air Corps pilots met at altitude. The Aviator followed that year and the Wayfarer in 1952, and nearly ninety years on the name still folds that optical-first thinking into frames worn far beyond the cockpit.
